Your safety comes first

Is ayahuasca right for you?

Ayahuasca is a powerful sacred medicine, and it is not right for everyone. Every intake form is reviewed personally, and we only confirm a retreat once we feel it is safe for you. Ayahuasca is generally not suitable if you:

  • Have a heart condition or uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Have a personal or family history of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or psychosis
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have epilepsy or a seizure disorder
  • Have had recent surgery

Taking antidepressants or other medications?

You may still be able to join us. Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs and similar), some other prescriptions, and supplements like St. John’s Wort can be dangerous when combined with ayahuasca. Many people have safely tapered off their medication before a retreat, with the guidance of their prescribing doctor.

Each medication needs its own amount of time to fully leave the body, often several weeks and sometimes longer, so please reach out early and share every medication and supplement on your intake form. Never stop or change a medication on your own. We’ll plan your retreat date around what is safe for you.

Preparation is part of the medicine

How to prepare

Once your retreat is confirmed, you’ll receive a full preparation guide. In the one to two weeks before, the traditional dieta invites you to:

  • Avoid alcohol, cannabis and recreational substances
  • Avoid red meat, pork, processed foods, and aged or fermented foods
  • Reduce salt, sugar, caffeine and spicy food
  • Abstain from sexual activity
  • Spend quiet time in nature, prayer and journaling about your intentions

How you arrive shapes how the medicine can meet you. We’ll walk with you through every step.
